WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to manage the visibility of the social media links added to their profiles. According to a WaBetaInfo report, the feature is currently under development and aims to offer users greater control over who can see the linked accounts including Instagram, directly from their profile settings.

The report further added that the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.5.19 has a dedicated privacy section that will soon allow users to configure the visibility of their profile links. The new dedicated tab will offer four options: “Everyone,” “My contacts,” “My contacts except,” and “Nobody”, much like the last seen, display picture and read receipts features. With these options, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform aims to offer enhanced user control by allowing them to either increase the discoverability or restrict access to specific contacts.
Users who want to grow their Instagram by enhancing their reach can choose the Everyone option and make their account linked with WhatsApp. It will make their profile visible for the contacts and even those not saved as contacts.
Those who value privacy, on the other hand, can restrict access to only contacts or prevent specific individuals from viewing the link. Users can also choose to hide their profile links completely while saving them for later use.
The feature will be optional, so users will not be required to include social media links if they do not wish to. However, for those who do, this update ensures that their privacy settings can be customized to meet their specific requirements.
It is worth noting that Meta has not confirmed the feature and announced the exact rollout timeline at the time of writing this article. However, we expect that the feature will debut with a new update in the coming weeks. Till then, stay tuned with Digit to know about the new WhatsApp features.
