WhatsApp for iOS finally lets you copy just part of message: Here’s how it works

Meta-owned instant messaging app is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to select and copy only a specific part of a message. Until now, users were required to select the entire message when copying it. According to a report by WaBetaInfo, the new feature is available in the latest WhatsApp for iOS 25.16.81 update. We, too, are able to access this new feature by updating to the latest version of the app.

The new functionality will enable users to copy only the most relevant information from a chat. Here’s how it works.

How to select and copy a specific portion of a WhatsApp chat

The latest WhatsApp for iOS update has brought the ability to extract and copy only a specific part rather than the entire message. To use this feature, simply tap on a message for a little longer and drag your finger to select a particular word or sentence from a message. A new action menu will pop up on the screen, suggesting three options – Copy, Look Up and Share, directly within the chat interface. Tap on a copy, and it’s done.

This new update has removed the need for the multi-step process to select and copy a part of the message, as users will no longer need to copy the entire message. Until now, users had to copy the entire message first and then paste it into the chat bar to delete the unnecessary parts manually. Do note that to access this feature, users must download the latest version of the messaging app from the App Store.

Interestingly, the new functionality is also under development for Android users and is expected to be made available soon. However, the exact rollout date is yet to be known.
