Instagram to add live video soon, confirms CEO
HIGHLIGHTS

It seems to be working for Facebook, so why not add live video to Instagram, too?

After Twitter and Facebook, it is now Instagram’s turn to allow live video streaming on its platform. Speaking to the Financial Times, Kevin Systrom, CEO, Instagram, confirmed that the photo sharing social network is indeed working on live video. Systrom said Instagram is really excited about live video, and that it’ll enhance the social network.

The possibility of Instagram adding the live video feature to its platform had been reported earlier, but there was no official word up until now. The live broadcasts will reportedly be placed alongside Instagram Stories, which was recently added to the platform. Both these features will show up at the top of the app, presumably on both iOS and Android operating systems.

While there is no word on when the live video feature will be added to Instagram, it’s another example of how Facebook-owned apps are becoming similar to each other. Earlier, leaks had suggested a status bar feature being added to WhatsApp, which would be similar to Instagram’s Stories feature.

Live Video has been quite successful for Facebook so far, which is perhaps why the company wants to bring it to its other platforms. However, it would be interesting to see how Instagram’s live videos differ from Facebook. Perhaps there will be a limit on how long a user can stream?
