Facebook and Instagram down for thousands of users globally, company response awaited
Thousands of users in India and the US reported outages affecting Instagram and Facebook on Sunday.
Instagram users faced issues with feeds, posting and app access, while Facebook users struggled to log in via the desktop website.
Meta has not yet explained the cause of the outage or confirmed when all affected services will be fully restored.
Facebook and Instagram down: Meta owned social media platforms Instagram and Facebook are facing massive outage on Sunday. Thousands of users across multiple countries are reporting problems in accessing the services. As per outage tracking platform Downdetector, users in India and the United States were among the worst affected, with complaints ranging from login failures to issues with feeds, posting content and using the apps.
SurveyIn India, over 1,200 users have initially reported disruptions on Instagram, with the number of complaints still rising as the outage continues. Downdetector also shows many users were unable to access the app, refresh their timelines or upload posts and Stories.
The disruption looks to be broader outside India. In the United States, over 4,200 users reported Instagram-related issues. Facebook also saw more than 3,200 complaints, with many users saying they could not access the platform through its desktop website.
Instagram and Facebook Down: What errors are users seeing
Several Facebook users encountered an error message stating that their account was “temporarily unavailable due to a site issue” and advising them to try again later. Meanwhile, Instagram users reported receiving a generic message saying, “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”

Downdetector data suggested that Instagram users mainly faced problems with the app, feed and publishing content. On Facebook, most complaints were related to the web version of the platform rather than the mobile app.

Social media users also took to other platforms to confirm the outage, with many saying they were unable to log in or access their accounts through desktop browsers while mobile access remained functional for some.

Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage at the time of writing. It also remains unclear how long the disruption will continue or whether all affected services have been fully restored.
