HTC EVO 3D – Exclusive Test Lab Preview

HTC EVO 3D – Exclusive Test Lab Preview

The HTC EVO 3D was pretty highly anticipated in our test labs, no wonder so many willing hands tried to grab the box to be the first ones to unveil her in our little world. The EVO 3D is HTC's latest entrant in the Indian Android arena, and looking at its spec-sheet we were pretty impressed.

Opening up the minimalist white OEM box that HTC uses for all review samples reveals the EVO 3D nestled in white cardboard, certainly not something worth photographing. The accessories too are regular HTC fare – a rather compact wall charger, USB cable that doubles as a power cable and a pair of earphones with liberal branding.

The EVO 3D. That reddish tinge isn't the display but the brown material visible behind the phone getting reflected.

Right, we’ve beaten around the bush long enough. The handset itself immediately feels heavier than the HTC Sensation (148 grams), and it is at 170 grams. We like the matte-black finish, gives the phone a decidedly rugged appearance…masculine if you will.

The battery rated at a massive 1730 mAh

With the ribbing on the battery cover, it is also a lot more secure to hold and being slimmer of width than the Samsung Galaxy S2 ones fingers curl around the device rather well. And now for the 3D camera…

The 3D camera, which is basically two cameras with different viewing perspectives. Also visible is the camera 2/3D select and the nice camera shutter button.

Battery cover removal is a bit of a pain, and the memory card tends to get stuck in its bay. These are early observations spotted by us. Read our review for more…

SIM insertion requires removal of battery cover, note how the SIM goes into the groove under the camera bezel. Memory card is hot swappable, but needs removal of the battery cover

A look at those 540 x 960 pixels…

With the display on, the home screen, note that visibility with some light falling on it indoors is decent

Finally 1 GB of RAM, something the HTC Sensation should have addressed.

Text and web pages are super crisp. The camera (Nikon S9100 in this case) is a limiting factor capturing this crispness, or it could be our photography skills 😉

The dual cameras that capture from different perspectives simultaneously, thereby the 3D effect. Note the dual LED flashes
