OnePlus Domin8: Siddhant Narayan, Head of Marketing, OnePlus India talks about the Domin8 tournament, gaming on the OnePlus 8 and more

OnePlus is holding its Domin8 PUBG Mobile tournament today (June 2), which is scheduled to start at 6 PM. The tournament pits cricketers against pro gamers, while also aiming to give the OnePlus community a chance to them. You can watch the OnePlus Domin8 tournament live here.

Before the start of the tournament, we had a chance to ask Siddhant Narayan, OnePlus Head of Marketing, India, a couple of questions regarding the Domin8 Tournament. Here’s what he had to say.

Digit: What was the thought process behind a tournament like Domin8?

Siddhant Narayan:  Community engagement through offline activities and online events has been central to our engagement efforts. We are always looking to curate exciting experiences that help us connect with our community at a deeper level.

Summer in India is synonymous with cricket, so we wanted to bring the power of cricketers and gamers together and offer our consumers a unique opportunity to see and engage with their favourite cricketers in a new avatar.

With OnePlus Domin8 we saw a great opportunity for our hardcore OnePlus gamers to come forth and to be part of this unique opportunity to virtually interact with pro-gamers and Indian cricketers to experience the fast performance of PUBG Mobile on the new OnePlus 8 series which we believe is one of the best devices for gamers.

Digit: Will we see other ‘all-star’ celebrity events like Domin8 in the future?

Siddhant Narayan: The OnePlus community is at the heart of all our efforts and the large part of this community are power users and hardcore gamers. An all-star event such as Domin8 was a natural fit for the brand and one which was very well received by the community. As far as future events are concerned, we will always look at working on more unique engagement that will add value to the community.

Digit: With the current flagship OnePlus device, the OnePlus 8 Pro offering 120Hz refresh rate, when do you think we’ll see games like PUBG Mobile catch up and offer super high refresh rates?

Siddhant Narayan: The OnePlus 8 series is a step towards further improving the OnePlus gaming experience for our community. OnePlus’ recent collaboration with Fortnite to introduce an industry-first 90FPS gaming feature is a testament to our commitment to give our fans the best gaming experience on smartphones.

Digit: How much did gaming impact the design of the OnePlus 8 Pro?

Siddhant Narayan: At OnePlus, we believe that one single feature cannot drive the overall functionality of a smartphone. We strive to bring the latest and most relevant technology back to our community by constantly innovating to provide the best possible user experience. Every smartphone built by OnePlus is made to perform with the promise of a fast and smooth experience, inherently making the OnePlus 8 Pro a gaming phone.

Designed to resonate with gamers, the OnePlus 8 series comes packed with our state of the art 120Hz screen curated to provide the best viewing experience in any setting. With minimal bezels and Dolby Atmos powered Dual Speakers, the OnePlus 8 Pro provides a top of the line audiovisual journey which makes for a fully immersive gaming experience.

Digit: Will we see a gaming-centric smartphone or maybe some official gaming accessories from OnePlus?

Siddhant Narayan: We are working on numerous projects to cater to the ever-evolving OnePlus community and we would want you to stay tuned to our official updates for more information on our new endeavours.

As mentioned above, the OnePlus Domin8 tournament will be held tonight. It will see Indian cricketers like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Smriti Mandhana, Yuzvendra Chahal alongside pro gamers like Dynamo, Ahsaas Channa and Fnatic gamers like Sc0ut, Owais, Nixon, Ash, Franky and Ronak. The ‘HyperTasker’ of each match will get a OnePlus 8 5G, while those watching the live stream also stand to win prizes.

Side Note: Digit has also been invited to participate in the tournament. While victory will be tough (especially considering the calibre gamers we are up against) we will do our best to not die immediately upon landing.
