WhatsApp Status to add Meta AI image editing and animation features: What to expect
Beta testers on iOS can access AI-driven visual styles like Anime, Comic Book, 3D, and Painting for Status photos.
Users can add or remove objects, improve details, or completely reimagine images using text prompts.
Static photos can be turned into short animated visuals, making Status updates more engaging without leaving WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is reportedly expanding its use of generative AI in the Status updates, with the iPhone users now getting to see features that were previously available in the Android beta. The instant messaging platform has started rolling out an AI-powered image creation and editing tools to select users running the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.37.10.73 via TestFlight.
SurveyThe new feature embeds Meta AI’s Imagine tools directly into WhatsApp’s Status editor, allowing users to generate, modify, and enhance images without leaving the app. Instead of relying solely on basic filters, the new editor will bring AI driven visual styles and content editing options that can alter how an image looks before it is shared.
The beta testers report seeing a refreshed interface where AI tools appear along with the traditional editing controls. The users can apply artistic styles such as Anime, Comic Book, 3D, Painting, Clay, Kawaii, and Video Game-inspired looks, among others. Unlike conventional filters, these styles use AI to regenerate the image, meaning users can tap a “redo” option to create multiple variations of the same style until they find a version that fits their mood.

Along with aesthetics, the AI tools also allow deeper image manipulation. Users can also prompt Meta AI to add or remove objects, improve details or modify specific parts of photo, with the system reconstructing backgrounds to maintain visual consistency. There is also an option to reimagine an entire image using text prompts, turning an existing photo into a completely new scene or theme.
Additionally, the company will also offer image animation. Static photos can be transformed into short animated visuals, adding subtle motion to Status updates and making them more eye-catching without becoming full videos.
It must be noted that the feature is rolling out gradually and is currently limited to a select group of beta testers with availability varying by region. Some users on stable iOS updates may have gained early access and other can receive it in the coming days.
