Is iPhone 17 getting a price hike in India? Here is the truth

Amid the rising memory component prices in the industry, several smartphone brands have quietly increased the prices of their smartphones in the recent weeks. Against this backdrop, an alleged circular claiming to be an official Apple communication started circulating online, claiming that the Cupertino giant is planning to increase the price of iPhone 17 in India.

The circular claimed that Apple will implement a Rs 7,000 price hike on the iPhone 17 starting December 16, taking the price of the base variant to Rs 89,900. However, Digit has learnt that these claims are false and that Apple is not increasing the price of the iPhone 17 in India.

Launched in September, the iPhone 17 is already selling like hotcakes, thanks to the meaningful upgrades over the iPhone 16, including 120Hz refresh rate. For those unaware, Apple discontinued the 128GB storage variant with this generation, making the 256GB model the new base option, priced at Rs 82,900.

During this time, the iPhone 17 continues to be listed at its original price on Apple’s official India website. Digit has also learnt that authorised retail partners have not received any communication about a revised maximum operating price (MOP).

According to industry sources, the confusion stems from a fake or misleading circular that has been going viral online and has been misinterpreted as an official Apple price revision.

The speculation about a price increase gained traction after several X tipsters claimed a few weeks ago that Apple was planning to revise iPhone 17 pricing. According to these claims, the base variant will cost Rs 89,900, while the 512GB version will cost Rs 1,09,900, which is the same price as the iPhone Air.

Consumers looking to buy the iPhone 17 in India should not be concerned about an impending price increase. Any legitimate pricing changes, if implemented, are expected to be officially announced by Apple via authorised channels.
