Vivo X Fold 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Design and display
Both the Vivo X Fold 5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 come with a book-style foldable design with sleek chassis and nearly invisible hinges. When unfolded, the former measures 4.3mm thick, which makes it barely any thicker than a standard USB-C port. On the other hand, Samsung’s Fold 7 measures 4.2mm, slightly slimmer than the Vivo X Fold 5. For durability, Samsung uses tough Gorilla Glass and a high-end ceramic finish. Both handsets are water- and dust-resistant.
Additionally, Vivo X Fold 5 has an 8.03-inch expansive display with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, while Samsung’s Z Fold 7 has a slightly smaller 8-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with up to 2,600 nits peak brightness and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
When folded, Vivo’s foldable has a 6.53-inch cover display with a Full HD+ LTPO AMOLED panel, 120Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits peak brightness. On the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, there is a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X (2520×1080, 21:9) panel with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

The Vivo X Fold 5 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The handset runs on Vivo’s FunTouch OS 15, based on Android 15. On the other hand, Galaxy Z Fold 7 is powered by the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, making it faster. It also packs up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of onboard storage. It runs on Android 16-based Samsung’s One UI 8, which offers a more polished and smoother experience.

For photography, Vivo partnered with ZEISS. The X Fold 5 packs a triple camera setup comprising a 50MP Sony IMX921 primary sensor (OIS), a 50MP Samsung JN1 ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 50MP Sony IMX882 3x periscope telephoto lens. The device also has a 20MP front camera on both the main and cover screens.
Further, Samsung counters with a 200MP main wide-angle camera (with 2x optical quality zoom), a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. It also has a 10MP cover camera and a 10MP main display camera.
