JioChat is the instant messaging app from Reliance which allows users to experience enhanced communication and also offers access to interactive engagement opportunities through branded channels, contests and learning segments. JioChat is part of the comprehensive Jio Digital Life ecosystem which is democratizing digital culture in India. Jio is India’s fastest growing digital services network, adding millions of new subscribers from all regions every month since its launch. A large part of the network’s subscriber base consumes audio and visual content for entertainment and infotainment purposes.

Speaking about the launch, Alan Gemmell OBE, Country Director British Council said, “We are delighted to have partnered with Jio to reach out to millions of Indians and help them succeed in a highly competitive environment. English language proficiency today is a pre-requisite for growth at most workplaces and we want people from all backgrounds to have easy access to English learning and improvement resources. Indians spend a large part of their time on their smartphones and we wanted the LearnEnglish platform to be available to them 24×7. We are excited at the prospect of Jio subscribers using their smartphones for learning and self-development purposes more often.”

LearnEnglish is a British Council resource dedicated to helping learners improve their English skills with a strong focus on conversational English. Subscribers to the channel will have access to LearnEnglish audio and video materials that have been developed to improve spoken fluency and pronunciation, and build vocabulary and grammar. They will also receive content on practical English for everyday situations at work and in life. The learning will be made dynamic and interactive by the platform that allows for subscribers to message the channel and receive immediate replies.

Given the phenomenal growth in use of smart phones and content consumption through these devices, this channel is specifically being designed for the mobile making it convenient for learners to consume byte sized content from anywhere, anytime!

English Club contains a range of vocabulary sets presented in an entertaining and often humorous format. Each set contains word sets for general, intermediate and advanced learners and a special collection of business-related vocabulary for learners who need to use English as part of their job.
