Elon Musk’s Starlink is nearing its launch in India. The satellite-based telecom service provider has cleared all required licenses from the Department of Telecommunications and IN-SPACe authorisation. However, it still needs to complete a few more steps to start its service in India. As mandated by the government, the company has also announced collaborations with Jio and Airtel; however, the official release timeline still remains under wraps.

Starlink launch timeline and availability in India
With the regulatory hurdles nearly cleared and infrastructure collabs in place, Starlink is expected to start its service in the coming months. As confirmed by Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, Starlink has a few final hurdles, including approvals for SATCOM gateways, setting up points of presence, acquiring the required spectrum and securing licences for networking equipment to clear up before its rollout. Once these are in place, Starlink can start offering its services. However, the exact rollout date is yet to be announced.

Starlink speed, plans and installation cost
As per the reports, Starlink in India may offer internet speeds between 25Mbps and 220Mbps. However, it could depend on the signal conditions, locations, and other aspects. Additionally, a Press Trust of India (PTI) report, citing government sources, said that Starlink may charge a one-time installation fee between Rs 30,000 and Rs 35,000, and the monthly plans could range from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,200, depending on location and usage.
Meanwhile, Starlink is reportedly planning to launch its next-generation satellites in 2026, delivering up to 1,000 Gbps capacity.
