HIGHLIGHTS

The newest flagship Android smartphone from Samsung may not be a big upgrade over its predecessor, but it's still a good phone to consider.

About one and a half months after it was unveiled at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is now available for purchase in 125 countries including India. Here, the Samsung flagship smartphone can be yours for Rs. 51,500 and popular online retailers like Flipkart, Snapdeal and eBay India already have it listed.

The Galaxy S5 represents an evolutionary upgrade over the Galaxy S4 and we don’t really see it as a worthwhile purchase for those of you who bought its predecessor last year. For those of you with a Galaxy S3 or older Android smartphone, the S5 will be a noticeable upgrade especially because of its 5.1-inch 1080p display, Exynos octa-core processor, water-resistant body and 16MP camera. The Galaxy S5 also feels lighter and better built than its predecessor (as we noted when we got our hands on the smartphone) but it’s clearly not one of the best looking phones in the market. Overall, there’s a bunch of stuff that makes the Galaxy S5 worth considering and (obviously) some drawbacks as well.

If you’re on the lookout for a top-end Android smartphone and are willing to pay about 40 to 50K for it, you can also consider the HTC One Max and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Or, you could wait for the HTC One M8 which was recently launched and should hit our shores very, very soon.
