Xiaomi rolling out OTA update to fix heating issues in Mi 4i

We recently reviewed Xiaomi’s Mi 4i and the biggest drawback we found was its inability to churn out consistent performance due to overheating issues. So, to the solve this problem Xiaomi has released an OTA update. The latest update which will solve this problem, namely MIUI V6.5.5.0 LXIMICD is available for a few users currently and should be available for others gradually.

It should be noted that the Chinese company did release an update, update V6.5.4.0 LXIMICD, to solve this problem a couple of days ago, but after this update, users started facing problem with the power button and hence the roll out was stopped. However, in two days time, Xiaomi has come up with a fix and the VP of Xiaomi Global said this about the upcoming update on his Facebook page:
"We’ve heard from some Mi 4i users that their devices can get warm under more strenuous conditions such as complex 3D gaming for extended periods of time. To address these concerns, we’ve optimized our thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The new thermal controls adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature."
In all of our internal testing and pre-OTA release in the MIUI Forum and beta testers, we’ve observed that these changes reduce the device overall temperature without impacting performance. It’s pretty cool! (sorry for the pun, couldn’t help it lol)
Everyone should get the update this week."

The Xiaomi Mi 4i is a good smartphone in many accounts but the overheating issues really bogged down the performance. That being said the Xiaomi Mi 4i has the best in class display and camera in its segment. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 powered device is currently available without any registration on Flipkart as part of Flipkart’s ongoing electronics sale.
