Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite launched in India
HIGHLIGHTS

The Redmi Y1 starts at Rs 8,999 where as the Y1 lite is priced at Rs 6999. The phones will be available from November 8 exclusively on Amazon

After launching the almost bezel-less Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi is back with two new budget centric Redmi smartphones – the Redmi Y1 and the Redmi Y1 Lite. While the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is aimed at the selfie centric market, the Y1 Lite is Xiaomi’s first sub-7K phone with a 5.5-inch display. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will be available in two variants with prices starting from Rs. 8,999 and the Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs. 6,999. Both phones are Amazon exclusives with the first sale starting on 8th November at 12PM.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC, which we previously saw on the Redmi 4. It is available in 3GB and 32GB (priced at Rs 8,999) as well as in 4GB and 64GB option for Rs. 10,999. Apart from the on-board storage, you get a dedicated micro SD card slot with support for a 128GB card. The device has a 3080mAh battery, which is not as as big as other Redmi phones that we have seen. The main feature of the Redmi Y1 is the 16MP front facing camera, which the company claims is good at taking selfies. At the back, the phone employs a 13MP camera with PDAF and HDR support. You can read our first impressions of the Redmi Y1 here.

The more affordable Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite, is a toned down version of the Redmi Y1. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, which Xiaomi used previously on the Redmi 4A. The company claims that there are no good big screen phones in the sub-7K category and the Y1 Lite is here to fill that gap. The phone has the same 5.5-inch 720p display as the Redmi Y1 and has the same design and build quality as well. You get a 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage with the phone and it also supports microSD cards upto 128GB. You get the same 13MP rear camera as the Redmi Y1 as well as the same 3080mAh battery.

Both phones have a plastic build, with a metal finish on top. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 as well as the Y1 Lite will be available in two colour options grey and gold. Xiaomi has also partnered with Idea cellular to provide 280GB of additional 4G data. Xiaomi also announced that all its products will be available at Reliance Digital Stores in addition to Xiaomi's own Mi Home stores.
