HIGHLIGHTS

The Xiaomi MI 7 will reportedly ditch the fingerprint sensor altogether and adopt a 3D facial scanning system, much like the iPhone X.

The Xiaomi Mi 7 is reportedly going to ditch the fingerprint sensor for an iPhone X-style 3D facial recognition system. The new report contradicts earlier rumours of the Xiaomi flagship shipping with an under-display fingerprint sensor..

As per a report by MyDrivers, Xiaomi may ditch the fingerprint sensor altogether and adopt a 3D facial scanning technology much like Apple’s FaceID.

Earlier, Synaptics had announced it is ready with under-the-display fingerprint sensor and confirmed that Vivo will be the first to implement it, followed by Huawei.

An earlier report on GizChina had shown renders of the Mi 7 sporting the under-the-display fingerprint sensor, but now the report claims Xiaomi has no plans of using the tech in its upcoming Mi 7 smartphone.

During the announcement of the Snapdragon 845 by Qualcomm, Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun announced the Mi 7 will have the latest chipset powering the phone.

Additionally, other rumours state the phone will have an edge-to-edge bezel-less display that Xiaomi has already perfected in the Mi Mix 2 and a dual-camera system which was already there on the Mi 6.
