Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun also posted a teaser image for the event on Weibo showing a camera and a lens.

Xiaomi co-founder and President, Lin Bin has said that the company will not be releasing the Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone at the event scheduled for October 19. He posted, in Chinese, on his Weibo account, saying, “No Mi 5, notebooks, watches, plates, rice cookers, inflatable doll, nor bicycles, cars, aircraft, bombs, UFO.”

Xiaomi had earlier sent out invites for an event with a message that translates to ‘next generation of new products’. At that time, it was speculated that it will be releasing the Mi 5, successor to the Mi 4, at the event. Incidentally, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun posted an image on his Weibo account as well. This image shows a lens and camera and the text that translates to ‘Camera, lens and body separated better’. It does not confirm anything, but the announcement may be related to a camera and its components. Xiaomi already has products like power banks, USB fans, WiFi routers, tablet and TVs among others.

As for the Xiaomi Mi 5, there have been a lot of leaks and rumours surrounding the specifications of the phone. It is expected to feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass. The phone is expected to be powered by either the deca-core MediaTek Helio X20, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or 820 chipset coupled along with 4GB of RAM. It is rumoured to have a 16MP camera at the back and a 13MP camera at the front. Xiaomi’s next flagship is speculated to house a 3000mAh battery with support for quick charging. The phone will be running the latest MIUI 7 based on Android Lollipop v5.1. It is expected to be priced at $314.

Last month, Xiaomi launched the Mi 4c, which was said to be the stop-gap device till the release of Mi 5. The smartphone comes with a feature called Edge Tap. It lets users perform different actions by simply tapping the edges of the phone like single tap to click a photo and double tap to go back. It is available in two variants, one with 2GB RAM/16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM/64GB storage. The Mi 4c though is a China only device.
