Vivo X500 series launch confirmed: Here is what we know so far

Vivo has reportedly confirmed that its next flagship smartphone lineup may debut in China in September. Interestingly, the flagship series will be called the Vivo X500 series and will include three variants- Vivo X500, X500 Pro and new X500 Pro Max. The devices will offer major camera improvements, particularly in the dynamic range, video recording and image stabilisation. While the brand has confirmed the China launch date, the India launch timeline remains under the wraps.

Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao confirmed on Weibo that the X500 Pro series will introduce a new Zeiss Super Dynamic primary camera built around the Blueprint Phantom 900 sensor. Vivo claims the sensor can deliver up to 17EV of dynamic range, allowing it to retain more detail in bright highlights and darker areas. The phones are also expected to support advanced video recording, including 4K slow-motion video at up to 240fps and 4K HDR recording at 120fps.

For stabilisation, the X500 Pro models are tipped to feature 3-degree optical image stabilisation. The X500 Pro Max is expected to get the most advanced version, with support for CIPA 7.0-rated professional stabilisation.
Vivo X500 Pro Max may get powerful hardware
The Pro Max will be positioned at the top of lineup and is said to offer features not available on the other two models. As per tipster Digital Chat Station, the series internally known as Thanos 500 can also get the 200MP telephoto camera from the Vivo X300 Ultra.
The upcoming phones are said to use new MediaTek flagship chipsets, although Vivo has not confirmed the processors yet. The lineup is also likely to retain Vivo’s partnership with Zeiss and can continue with a circular rear camera design.
Why Vivo is skipping the X400 name
Vivo also seems to be moving directly from X300 to X500, skipping the X400 branding. The decision is reportedly related to tetraphobia, the cultural avoidance of the number four in parts of East Asia because its pronunciation is associated with death.
