Vivo has launched its first smartphone in India with an in-display fingerprint sensor, the Vivo X21. Priced at Rs 35,990, the smartphone features a taller 19:9 display aspect ratio and comes with a notch on top. One will be able to purchase the device via Flipkart and the company’s online store starting May 29 and it will be available in a Gold colour variant. The Vivo X21 comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and one can unlock the device by simply pressing down on the screen. There are also different unlock animations to choose from and Vivo is bundling a ‘special’ screen protector with the device so that there is no problem in the working of the in-display fingerprint sensor.

As mentioned above, the Vivo X21 is priced at Rs 35,990 and it comes with 6GB RAM, coupled with 128GB of internal storage. For launch offers, the company is offering a 5 percent cashback for SBI credit card customer and an extra Rs 3,000 off over regular exchange as well. One will also be able to purchase the device with a no-cost EMI of up to 12 months on all credit cards.

The Vivo X21 aims to take on the recently launched OnePlus 6 (review) but it’s seriously underpowered with the Snapdragon 660 SoC compared to the OnePlus 6's Snapdragon 845 processor. It features a 6.28-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and runs on FunTouch OS 4.0, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Vivo says that the device’s display and the thin-bezel design allow for a 90.30 percent screen to body ratio and that the screen covers 99.5 percent of DCI-P3 Color Gamut and 99.9 percent of sRGB colour spectrum.

In terms of optics, the smartphone is equipped with a dual-rear camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor with a f/2.4 aperture and an LED flash. On the front is a 12MP camera as well. Vivo has touted the use of dual-pixel technology for capturing detailed images and as AI is the new buzzword, the company has used an AI HDR feature, which is said to automatically detect and correct the exposure, colour and more settings while capturing an image. It is also touted to deliver better low light images and help in faster autofocus. The so-called 'AI' is also used in a slew of other tasks like capturing AI Face Beauty that is said to recognise gender, skin colour, skin tone and more for providing customised beauty effects.

The Vivo X21 is powered by a 3200 mAh battery and Vivo says that it comes with Deepfield sound effect that allows for choosing between 360 degrees surround sound, Megabass mode and clear vocals. Vivo’s flagship XE710 earphones will be bundled with the smartphone as well.
