HIGHLIGHTS

The next generation variant of the Yu Yuphoria may have an octa-core MediaTek chipset, and 3GB of RAM.

Alleged benchmarks of a new Yu Yuphoria surfaced earlier today. According to the GFXBench database, the Yu YU6000 (Yuphoria) now has a 1080p display, and a more powerful octa-core MediaTek SoC. The current Yu Yuphoria was a big step from Yu, as it was the first phone to bring metal as a build material in the sub-7K segment. On top of that, the phone featured the best specifications at the time of its launch. Now, though, the hardware is somewhat dated, and it would make more sense if the company has plans to upgrade the phone to a newer hardware. If the alleged benchmarks are true, we might have a Yu Yuphoria 2 (or something similar) in our hands, soon.

According to the GFXBench databases, the new Yu YU6000 Yuphoria has a 4.6-inch display, instead of a 5-inch one. The resolution of the display is supposedly upgraded to 1080p, from the current generation 720p. The MediaTek SoC which powers the new phone is the octa-core MT6753, the same one used by Meizu M2 Note and Coolpad Note 3. There is 3GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, and the phone scores 203 frames in Manhattan Onscreen, and 189 frames in Manhattan Offscreen on the GFXBench 3.1 synthetic benchmark.

The other upgrade comes in the form of a new camera, and according to the GFXBench page, it has a 13MP rear autofocus camera, which also allows touch-to-focus. The front-facing camera is supposedly upgraded to 8 megapixels. The phone in the benchmark is running on Android Lollipop v5.1. Whether it's running on stock Android, or some version of CyanogenMod, is yet to be determined. Despite the optimism, chances are that this could just be a test device which might not materialise.

Yu is also gearing up to launch the Yu Yutopia, which the company has been claiming that it is the “most powerful smartphone on the planet”. The phone is expected to feature a full metal build, and run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC. No other details about the phone have been announced yet, but the phone is expected to be launched soon.
