Timeline for Honor’s GPU Turbo rollout announced, Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro first in line to receive it: Report
HIGHLIGHTS

The company’s GPU Turbo is said to boost 60 percent of its device’s GPU efficiency, while lowering the SoC’s power consumption by 30 percent.

Honor recently announced its  "breakthrough technology", called GPU Turbo, at an event. The company said that its Honor Play will be the first smartphone to launch with the feature pre-installed and later, it will be rolled out to its other devices like the Honor 10, Honor View 10, Honor 9 Lite and the Honor 7X. At the unveiling, there was no information as to when the feature will be rolled out to these devices and whether any other smartphones will get it or not. Now, as per a report by GizChina, the president of Huawei’s mobile phone division, He Gang, has revealed the timeline for GPU Turbo updates.

As per the report, speaking at 2018 CES ASIA in Shanghai, Gang announced that the Huawei  Mate 10 Series of devices will be the first to be seeded with the GPU Turbo technology. The rollout timeline is as follows:

  • End of June: Mate 10 Series and for the Honor View 10.

  • July: P20 series, Mate RS Porsche Design, nova 2S, Honor 10 and MediaPad M5 Series.

  • August: nova 3e, Enjoy 8 Plus, Enjoy 7S, Mate 10 Lite, Honor 9 Lite and the Honor 7X.

  • September: The Mate 9 Series.

  • October: The P10, P10 Plus and P10 Lite, Honor 9, and the Honor 8 Pro.

  • November and later this year: Rest of the company’s handsets.

The GPU Turbo mode is basically a software upgrade, which is said to reconstruct the traditional graphics processing framework at the lower layer system for improving the user experience. The company claims that it was able to achieve this ‘technological breakthrough’ of improving the GPU’s efficiency on their device by 60 percent, while reducing the SoC energy consumption by 30 percent. We will actually wait for the update to be rolled out and find out ourselves whether the company’s claims hold water. Further, Huawei added that even if its device does not support High Dynamic Range (HDR), it will still be able to deliver "outstanding" graphics quality with GPU Turbo.
