Rumours suggest that Samsung may ship a thin, transparent case with its upcoming Galaxy Note 8 smartphone. Samsung is launching its latest flagship on August 23

Samsung is all set to launch its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 8, on August 23. Rumours about the smartphone’s specifications have been making the rounds on the internet and now, etnews reports that Samsung is adding a transparent plastic case in the box with the Note 8, similar to what was included with the Note 7 Fan Edition in Korea.

The case is said to be included in the box, along with other Note 8 accessories. ETNews says that the case will be made up of very thin, transparent plastic material that covers the back and the sides of Galaxy Note 8, while maintaining a sense of grip on the smartphone. The case is expected to flaunt the design of Galaxy Note 8, while keeping it protected from scruffles and chips. The website also claims that the manufacturing of original cases for the Galaxy Note 8 is underway and contracted to South-Korean smartphone accessory makers. It is estimated that at least 10 million original cases will be produced by these accessory makers.

Consumers will benefit from this move by saving money on buying a case for the Note 8 externally, however, this spells a probable loss for vendors who sell these cases for the masses. According to the website, this is Samsung Electronics’ plan to minimise possible financial burden for consumers who were earlier required to purchase a smartphone case separately, thus minimising a possible financial burden on them. The case is estimated to cost somewhere between 20,000 – 30,000 KRW (about Rs 1100 – Rs 1800 ) when purchased separately.

“We have not decided anything regarding Galaxy Note 8,” a high-ranking official for Samsung Electronics told etnews. “It is difficult for us to mention any information regarding new products that are not released yet,” added the official. It has also been rumoured that the case will not be included with the Note 8 in Europe, Russia, or the US. The upcoming Samsung's flagship smartphone is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset in the US while being powered by Samsung's own Exynos 8895 chipset globally. It may feature 6GB RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage. It is said to support expandable storage via microSD card slot.
