Samsung may discontinue Galaxy Z Flip lineup after Z Flip 8, leak suggests

Samsung has officially confirmed that it will be hosting the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 this month. At the event, the brand is touted to introduce the next generation foldables- Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 and the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. While this year looks power packed, Samsung may end the Galaxy Z Flip series next year according to a new leak from tipster Ice Universe. However, the report has not been confirmed by Samsung, and the information should be treated as speculation for now.

Why would Samsung end the Galaxy Z Flip series?

As per the reports, one of the reasons is Samsung’s expanding foldable portfolio. The company is said to offer both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and larger Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra this year. And if the standard Fold becomes more compact and easier to use, it may reduce the need for separate clamshell foldables in Samsung’s lineup.

Another factor can be the pricing. The industry reports suggest rising DRAM and memory costs are increasing production expenses for smartphone makers. As a result, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 might reportedly launch at around EUR 1,299 for the 256GB variant. At that price, the phone may compete directly with premium flagship phones where buyers may expect better cameras, larger batteries and more conventional hardware.

The report also suggests that the future of the Galaxy Z Flip series is unlikely to be decided before the Z Flip 8 reaches the market. The brand will reportedly evaluate the customer demand and sales performance before making any long-term decision. Other reports also suggest the company may not permanently abandon the lineup. Instead, Samsung could skip a generation and bring the Flip series back once memory prices stabilise, allowing it to offer the device at a more competitive price.
