Samsung’s third generation phablet, which is expected to hit store shelves in 2013, is expected to have a whopping 6.3-inch display. The first generation Note had a 5.3-inch display where as the second generation note has a larger 5.5-inch display. No other specifications of the Note III have surfaced.

The Korea Times goes on to say, “the world’s biggest technology company has been developing the Galaxy Note III with a 6.3-inch screen using an OLED display, according to officials from a local parts suppliers, while the company will start the first commercial sale of 55-inch OLED TVs from late next year.”

If the size of the display is true, it will be interesting to see how the product falls into the tablet smartphone ecosystem. If a smartphone has a screen 5-inch or larger, it is considered a phablet. To qualify as a tablet, the device needs to have a minimum 7-inch display. With the line between these categories blurring and the power under the hood increasing, the consumer will be left confused as to which is the ideal device for their use.

With CES 2013 and MWC 2013 just around the corner, it will be interesting to see the products that will be showcased, especially in the smartphone field. We have already started to hear rumours about Samsung’s next generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S IV. You can read details of the rumoured device here.

Another device that has us excited is the LG Optimus G2. You can read the rumoured specifications here.
