Reports suggest camera module-maker Patron is making iris scanners for Samsung

The newest feature on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 7 smartphone may be an iris scanner. While the phone will obviously feature a stylus, according to the Korean Herald, camera module-maker Patron might be the one making the iris scanners for Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy Note 6, errr… 7, is expected to launch on August 2 this year.

Recently, a video render of the phone was posted on YouTube. According to the renders, the phone will have a USB Type-C port and multiple sensors on the top. The iris scanner is likely to be placed on the top, along with the sensor array. The Note 7 won’t be the first phone to use this technology, as Microsoft Lumia 950XL also featured an iris scanner powered by Windows Hello Beta.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 should be a powerful phone, though. Rumors suggest that Samsung is likely to equip to the smartphone with a new Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, which will be more powerful than the currently used Snapdragon 820. Going with the trend, 6GB RAM is expected. The device is also likely to boast 256GB internal storage on the top most variant. It is suggested that the Note 7 will be powered by a 4200mAh battery and may be IP68 certified.
