Samsung announces Galaxy Star and Pocket Neo budget Jelly Bean smartphones

Samsung has announced two entry-level smartphones called the Galaxy Star and the Galaxy Pocket Neo. Both the phones boast of dual-SIM capabilities and run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The Samsung Galaxy Star and the Pocket Neo were making the rounds on the rumour mills for some time and now Samsung has officially announced the two entry-level smartphones. Both run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and boast of dual-SIM capabilities. Neither device has 3G capabilities. There is however no information available about the pricing or the availability of the two devices.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy Star S5280 has a 3-inch QVGA TFT LCD display. Under the hood, a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM power the device. The budget smartphone houses a 2MP rear camera. It also has 4GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card slot. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. A 1,200mAh battery powers the entire package. The Android OS is skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

The Pocket Neo S5310 also has a 3-inch QVGA TFT LCD display. Under the hood, it has an 850MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. The rear of the smartphone has a 2MP shooter. It supports 4GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card slot. The Pocket Neo also supports Wi-Fi along with Bluetooth 4.0. A 1,200mAh battery powers the entire package. The Android OS is skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

Looking at the specifications of the smartphones it is likely that they will be priced in the Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 8,000 price range. Samsung already has a portfolio of devices in this price range, which includes the Samsung Rex, 70, Samsung Rex 80, Samsung Galaxy Y Duos, Samsung Galaxy Music and more. The market is already flooded with a plethora of smartphones in this price range including the Micromax Ninja 3 A57, Karbonn A4, Xolo A500 and many more.
