RIT releases mobile application and services in India
Research and Innovation Technologies (RIT) have launched their Orbit range of mobile applications and services in India. In a tie up with HotSpot Retail, they have launched four application of their brand “Orbit” in their first phase:

  • Orbit Record
This application allows you to record your phone conversations and use your mobile phone as a dictaphone. The call recording can be done automatically at each call, or on being prompted at each call, the recoding can also be hotkey controlled.

The application also supports automatically sending the recorded clips via MMS, or uploading them to your account if you are a registered user. You can also password protect your clips and add notes to them.

  • Orbit Tracker
This application is essentially an authorized spyware application, which logs all mobile phone activity such as making calls, sending SMSs and e-mails, your location, and even GPS information for phones which support it! In fact it can record your conversations and upload them to your account. The application can be controller remotely via SMSs. On their website you can track your phone usage and download reports.
  • Orbit Protect
This application protects you from some of the side effects of losing your mobile phone. It will automatically lock your phone and keypad on any unauthorized SIM card change and send you an intimation of the same. Also supported are remote SMS commands which will allow you to remotely delete your private messages, contacts, images, and videos.

You can set a secondary number to receive all these notifications, and can be configured to go into and “attack” mode instead of locking the phone, where it will notify you about any SMS sent and calls made.

  • Global Phone Backup
This application allows you to backup your mobile phones data via a simple SMS. Your data is uploaded and stored securely at RIT’s data centres and can be accessed securely from their website.

The application currently are available for Symbain S60 phones, however support for more mobile will be added in the future. The applications are tied to their services, and come in different tiers of functionality. The basic versions of their “Protect” and “Record” application are available for Rs. 99, as is a “Limited Edition” of Global Phone Backup. The “Basic” version of their Orbit Tracker application comes for a significantly higher Rs.499.

After September 15th they will be launching their applications with more functionality. Global Phone Backup comes with a subscription model, and their “Orbit Record” with come in three more versions “Premium” (with whitelists and blacklists), “Gold” (with support for uploading to web account), and “Advanced” (with SMS commands and stealth) will be available for Rs. 299, Rs. 599 and Rs. 999 respectively. The Orbit protect product, with GPS support will cost you Rs. 499, and Orbit Tracker’s full featured version will be a whopping Rs. 5,000 “onwards”!

This launch marks RIT’s entry into the Indian market, and their application in their basic versions at least seem to be reasonably priced, however with applications closely tied to web services, it will all depend on the quality and reliability of their servers.
