OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro(₹ 54999 at amazon) is just starting to make its way into the hands of users around the world and turns out, some of them are not happy. The OnePlus forum is starting to show a growing number of users complaining about the display on the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. The issue seems to vary in nature, but the green tint issue seems to be the most common one.
Users across the OnePlus forums have been reporting that some of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro units have a strong green tint on the display when viewed in the dark. The forum is filled with reports of users expressive the same issue not just with the OnePlus, but also of many other recent smartphones that sport an AMOLED display, with the common thread probably being the supplier. Recently, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra was called out for the same issue.
Some users on the OnePlus forum are reporting that changing the refresh rate to 60Hz or turning on DC Dimming fixes the issue, but there are others have found that ineffective. Another user received a response from the OnePlus technical support team that an OTA update will be released to fix the problem. Incidentally, the green tint issue only crops up when using the dark mode on the phone.
While most phones are prone to some teething issues at launch, faulty displays should never be one such issue. It is also disappointing to see issues at launch be normalized. A smartphone, regardless of its price, should function as intended when it reaches the hands of consumers. However, with brands getting exceedingly competitive, it is becoming clear that they are not spending enough time and resources on Quality Testing the product. Hopefully, this trend will change in the coming years and users would not have to deal with a faulty device at launch, waiting for the manufacturer to issue an update to fix it.
