OnePlus One gets price cut, 16GB variant now costs $249

HIGHLIGHTS

OnePlus drops prices of the OnePlus One and enables toll-free customer care number for India.

OnePlus has slashed $50 from both variants of its OnePlus One smartphone. Last week, the company dropped the prices for both variants by $50 for a limited time, but after a great response, has permanently lowered the prices. So, the 16GB version of the OnePlus One is now priced at $249 (Rs. 16,000 approx) and the 64GB variant is priced at $299 (Rs. 19,100 approx). The company states, “Over the past year, we’ve been able to increase our component orders with suppliers, and scale to a much more efficient level of operation. This has brought everything from the cost of components, engineering and assembly down, and in turn, the cost of the One.”

Another big update from the company is that it has partnered with Dropbox. So, users can now get a Dropbox Pro subscription with their OnePlus One 64GB variant at $349 (Rs. 22,300 approx). This will give users 1TB of Dropbox space with 256- bit AES and SSL encrypted two-step verification and secure sharing features. However, these offers are for a limited time only and will start from June 10th. Sadly, all these offers are only available to users in US, Canada and Europe. Moving on to some India centric offerings, the OnePlus Silver Bullet headphones are back in stock for Rs. 899.

It is quite possible that India may see a similar price drop in the retail price of both OnePlus One variants in near future. The company has also enabled a toll-free customer care number – 000 8008 522 008 for Indian users.
While the OnePlus One is holding strong in its price range, we are looking forward to the upcoming release of OnePlus Two. Going by earlier reports, we believe OnePlus has plans to launch the OnePlus 2 later this year in the third quarter. The recent price drop of the OnePlus One is considered as a step in that direction. The upcoming smartphone could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 with a 1.5Ghz skew rather than 2.5Ghz or 2.7GHz skew. We should point out here that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC is infamous for its heating issues.

OnePlus also has plans to release a mid-range Android smartphone which could priced lower than the OnePlus One and could be launched this year as well.
