OnePlus hints at a water-resistant OnePlus 6

OnePlus hints at a water-resistant OnePlus 6
HIGHLIGHTS

OnePlus has posted a short video on Twitter and the caption suggest that the OnePlus 6 could be waterproof or water-resistant.

OnePlus is constantly teasing its upcoming OnePlus 6 flagship smartphone as it previously outed two new features via Twitter. The company has now hinted that the OnePlus 6 could be a waterproof or at least a water-resistant phone. Via its official Twitter handle, OnePlus Tweeted, “Don’t you just hate it when you have to stop using your phone when it rains? So do we.” If this turns out to be true, the OnePlus 6 will be the first smartphone by the company to offer water resistance. It’s yet to be known whether the device will be IP67 or IP68 certified and as it is a flagship, one can expect the rating to not be any lower than IP67.

From what is confirmed so far, the OnePlus 6 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and come with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It will be the first model for the brand which sports 256GB internal storage and now possibly, water resistance. The device will retain the 3.5mm audio jack and is confirmed to feature a notch on top of its display. The company says that it will come with a compatibility mode, which will hide the notch whenever the phone is in landscape mode. The mode can also be set for individual apps and is said to work “flawlessly” with over 1000 top apps on the Play Store. The device will reportedly be an Amazon Exclusive in India.

As mentioned earlier, the company has been teasing some features of the smartphone and it is also expected to come with gesture-based navigation. The gestures are speculated to be similar to the ones used on the iPhone X, like swiping down for returning to the home screen, swiping up for showing recent apps and more. The Alert Slider will also be updated with a “Slide to focus” feature and it could be used for manually focusing the camera on the device. An earlier report tipped at a red coloured Alert Slider on the OnePlus 6, same as the one on the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition. The smartphone could also be introduced in a new Blue colour variant, alongside the regular White and Black colour models.

OnePlus had previously posted an image on Twitter, where the OnePlus 5T was placed on the top of the OnePlus 6, revealing the edge of the handset. The image shows either a repositioned volume rocker or alert slider. It’s not clear yet, as it’s difficult to make out if the phone is resting on its display or the rear. There is also a cleverly hidden easter egg in the image. You can learn more about it here

The company could launch a Bluetooth enabled version of its Bullets in-ear headphones, alongside the OnePlus 6. The ‘OnePlus Bullets Wireless’ headphone was spotted on the Bluetooth certification website with the model number BT31B and it’s registered to OnePlus. There are also reports, suggesting that there could also be another variant of the smartphone with wooden finish on the rear panel. The phone is expected to launch running on OxygenOS based upon Android Oreo and official forum for the OnePlus 6 is also up.
