The company has confirmed removal of the headphone jack from the OnePlus 6T, but there’s plenty of rumours that hint at almost every aspect of the upcoming smartphone.
OnePlus has confirmed the existence of its upcoming OnePlus 6T smartphone, which is expected to be launched either in October or November later this year. There is no official information about the smartphone except that it will not feature the beloved headphone jack. However, there is a slew of reports and rumours going around the internet that, when pieced together, give away nearly every aspect of the upcoming handset. Everything that we know so far has been collated in this roundup article and we will keep updating it as more information regarding the OnePlus 6T leaks out.
Display and design
Almost all of the rumours and leaks that we have across so far point towards a ‘waterdrop’ notch display on the OnePlus 6T, same as the Oppo R17 Pro or the Vivo V11 Pro. In terms of display size, it will reportedly feature a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with 2340x1080p resolution. Thanks to the smaller notch, it is said to achieve a 91.5% screen to body ratio. However, the not-so-unique notch shape isn't the only interesting thing about its display as the OnePlus 6T is also rumoured to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Earlier this month, the smartphone’s retail box was leaked in images, which hinted at an in-display fingerprint sensor. Right underneath the fingerprint scanner symbol inside the box were the words, “Unlock The Speed” and incidentally, two new slogans along the same lines were reiterated in a teaser that recently aired on the TV. In the first ad of the OnePlus 6T, Amitabh Bachchan is seen holding the handset in a manner that partially hides the rear panel. Only the dual camera setup can be seen and one cannot ascertain whether it comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor or not. The company has also reportedly confirmed that the new feature will be available alongside the Face Unlock option.
Additionally, the OnePlus 6T could also feature the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 as the Oppo R17 shipped with the same. This could turn out to be true as OnePlus sometimes follows the same design philosophy as Oppo devices since both the brands belong to the same parent company – BBK Electronics. While not much known of the OnePlus 6T’s design, the company is not expected to throw a curveball by radically changing it. A recently leaked image hinted at a Mirror Black finish variant of the device.
Processor and memory variants
Unless Qualcomm decides to debut its next flagship processor with the OnePlus 6T, the phone will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, which is coupled with the Adreno 630 GPU. It should be noted that the OnePlus 6 also runs on the same SoC. Ahead of the launch, the smartphone was up for sale on an online retailers website and its listing suggested that the device could be launched in 6GB and 8GB RAM versions and with 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage. In short, it is likely that the OnePlus 6T would be the same as the OneP;lus 6 in terms of processor, storage and RAM configurations.
Camera
The camera is where OnePlus usually cuts cost in order to deliver a flagship phone at a reasonable price. However, this time around, the company is rumoured to equip the OnePlus 6T with a vertically aligned triple camera setup. We mentioned above that the phone was listed online for sale and as per the website, it will feature a 20MP + 12MP + TOF 3D cameras on the back while on the front, it could sport a 25MP sensor. However, the latest leaked image of the device’s rear goes against the triple-camera rumour and suggests that there will be ‘only’ two cameras on the device. The official TV ad of the smartphone that just aired hinted at the same, although nothing is certain until the device is launched.
Additional Features
The absolute shocker for almost every OnePlus fan was the company’s confirmation of killing off the 3.5mm audio jack on the OnePlus 6T. To lessen the blow, OnePlus announced the new Type-C Bullets earphones that are priced at Rs 1,490 and are expected to launch soon in India, as per a recent banner on Amazon's India website. However, the company says that this is the right time to ditch the jack and removing it is said to free up internal space to incorporate “new technology.” This new technology is most likely the new in-display fingerprint sensor but the company also hinted at better battery capacity on the upcoming device.
OnePlus uses fast charging on its phones, which it calls Dash Charge. However, this time around, it could be rebranded to Warp Charging as the company recently filed for a copyright for the new moniker. OnePlus 6T is expected to launch running on the stable version of Android 9 Pie with OxygenOS on top and this just might be the case as the company is on track with its software releases. It recently started seeding the third Android Pie based Open Beta for the OnePlus 6 in which most of the major bugs were ironed out.
Pricing and launch dates
The OnePlus 6T will be launched globally on October 29 and the next day in India. Its global version is speculated to be priced at $550 (Rs 38,000 approx). The online listing that revealed most of the upcoming device’s specs was selling it for $569, which approximates to around Rs 41,000. However, the device could probably be priced higher by the time it launches, thanks to the depreciating value of the Rupee. While there is a chance that the OnePlus 6T might be launched in October, we think that OnePlus could stick to its schedule and release the OnePlus 6T in November, which is when the OnePlus 5T was launched last year. Additionally, the OnePlus 6T is confirmed to be an Amazon Exclusive in India.
