After weeks of teasers and fragmented reveals, OnePlus has finally unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6. As promised, the device arrives with a notch on top of the display and it features an all-glass design where the glass envelops the entire rear panel. The company says that it’s their most sophisticated handset till now. It features a vertically stacked dual-rear camera setup and as the company had teased before, the Alert Slider has been relocated to the right edge of the device.
OnePlus 6 comes in three variants. The base variant with 6GB RAM/64GB storage is priced at $529 (Rs 35,810 approx), while its 8GB RAM model with 128GB and 256GB of onboard storage options will cost $579 (Rs 39,195 approx) and $629 (Rs 42,580 approx) respectively. The smartphone will be available in a Midnight Black, Mirror Black from June 22 and there is also a limited edition Silk White colour variant of the handset, which will go on sale from June 5.
Almost every aspect of the OnePlus 6’s hardware has been revealed officially by the company itself. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and comes in the aforementioned specifications. It features a 6.28-inch Full Optic screen with a taller 19:9 display aspect ratio and is running on OxygenOS 5.1, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The device sports a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and supports Face Unlock as well.
In terms of optics, the OnePlus 6 is equipped with a vertically stacked 20MP + 16MP dual-rear camera setup with Sony IMX 519 and 376K sensors respectively. The rear camera supports both Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and Electronic image stabilization (EIS). The company says that the rear camera can take better portrait images and comes with added modes and effects. In a future update, the Bokeh mode will be enabled for the front-facing camera as well. The device's camera can also capture slow motion videos, but at 480 fps and not at the rumoured frame rate of 960fps.
There will also be a new built-in video editor on the OnePlus 6, which will allow one to crop, add background music and use various filters on a video. The smartphone is backed by a 3300mAh battery which supports the company's proprietary Dash Charge technology and it comes with a gaming mode, which the company says not only blocks notifications but also boosts an app's performance by prioritising data and resources to it and by limiting the background processes. OnePlus will also make the latest public beta of the Android P available for the device in a few days and it will be downloadable from the company's website.
"With the OnePlus 6, we challenged ourselves to deliver an external design as smooth and elegant as the work we've done inside the device," says OnePlus Founder and CEO, Pete Lau. "We're proud of what we've accomplished, and we hope our users are too." He adds.
The company has also launched the OnePlus Bullets wireless in-ear headphones. The earbuds on the headphones snap together as they are magnetic and when they are put together, the device is turned off to save power. When users separate the earbuds, they automatically resume audio playback and the same gesture can be used to receive a call.
The wireless headphones are also Apt-X enabled and are equipped with an “energy tube”, which is said to absorb any interfering soundwaves to deliver cleaner sound. The headphones also support fast charging and OnePlus says that it can deliver up to 5 hours of audio playback when charged for just 10 minutes. It is priced at $69 (Rs 4,672 approx) and will be available for purchase from June 5.
