OnePlus 3, 3T start receiving Android Oreo update, OnePlus 5 Android Oreo beta to launch this month

The Oreo update for the OnePlus 3, 3T brings Picture-in-Picture functionality, adds notification dots and updates the smartphone’s security patch to September.

Oneplus has started rolling out the Android Oreo update for its last year flagship smartphones, the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T. The company said in their blog post that there will be a broader rollout of the update in the next few days. OnePlus recently launched their latest smartphone, the OnePlus 5T and also announced that the first Android Oreo open beta for it will launch in December this year. The OnePlus 5 is slated to receive the Android Oreo beta update sometime this month.

OnePlus had previously confirmed that Android Oreo will be the last major update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. The Oreo update brings some new features to the smartphones, like support for Parallel Apps, Picture-in-Picture, new quick settings designs and an updated September security patch. The update also adds some new improvements to the OnePlus launcher. It will come with added notification dots and a new app folder design. Users will also be able to upload photos directly to “Shot on OnePlus”. 

The OnePlus 5T is the company's latest offering which sports a bezel-less design and a taller screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. It sports a 6.01-inch FHD+ Optic AMOLED display and comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and runs on OxygenOS 4.7.1 layered atop Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The OnePlus 5T sports a dual rear camera setup with 16MP+20MP sensors and both come with same f/1.7 aperture lens with a 27.22mm focal length. The device packs a 3300mAh battery and retains the 3.5mm audio jack.

The smartphone is priced at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB RAM/64GB ROM variant and will cost Rs 37,999 for the 8GB RAM/128GB ROM model. The device will be available for purchase Globally starting November 21.
