OnePlus 2 Mini may be on the cards, reveals benchmark data
HIGHLIGHTS

A smaller screen version of the OnePlus 2 may prove to be the performance alternative of the compact-bodied OnePlus X, which focused on looks

OnePlus may be working on a small screen version of the OnePlus 2, if benchmark data on the Geekbench browser is to be believed. While there has been no official word or any other rumour, the benchmark data reveals a 4.6-inch display with 1080×1920 pixels resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with Adreno 430 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 12MP primary camera with 4K video capability, and a 5MP front camera with 1280×960 pixels video recording capability.

On paper, this sounds quite powerful, and is in fact quite feasible on part of OnePlus. The Chinese smartphone maker has been expanding its lineup of devices, and has recently launched a compact device, the OnePlus X. Featuring 5-inch AMOLED display and powered by the Snapdragon 801, the OnePlus X laid more importance to looks and overall feel of the device, thereby not making it to the top of performance-based charts. If the rumour surrounding the OnePlus 2 Mini is indeed true, OnePlus will be providing for smartphone users who prefer a smaller screen on phones, against the recent trend of devices with 5-inch or larger devices gaining more popularity.

None of this can be ascertained yet, though, seeing benchmark data like these can easily be fabricated. But, with the OnePlus X recently indicating a shifting trend within OnePlus to launch devices with smaller footprint, the OnePlus 2 Mini may actually be a real proposition. OnePlus has been steadily increasing its presence in the industry, even beyond smartphones. It recently launched the OnePlus Icons, a pair of premium in-ears priced at around Rs. 3,000. It has also launched a sandstone back cover for the iPhone 6/6s. Priced at $20, the OnePlus back cover for the iPhone is the first time that OnePlus has made an accessory for another company.

If the OnePlus 2 Mini materialises, fans of smaller displays and form factors on smartphones will have a high performance device to bank upon (apart from the iPhone 6s, of course), at least as per specifications.
