HMD Global had promised that the Nokia 8, Nokia 3, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 smartphones will be upgraded to Android Oreo by the end of this year. The company had confirmed that the Nokia 8 will be updated to Oreo before the end of October.

Nokia’s latest flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8 could be receiving its promised Oreo update very soon. Nokia has started rolling out the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update for the Nokia 6 along with the October security patch. According to a report by NokiaPowerUser, the Nokia 8 smartphone will not be receiving the Android 7.1.2 update. This is because the company may be planning on updating the smartphone directly to Android Oreo.

The Nokia 8 will reportedly receive the Android Oreo update by the end of October or by early November, according to the report. The device is thus said to be skipping on the currently rolling out Android 7.1.2 upgrade and jump straight to Android Oreo.

Last month, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, teased a beta Android Oreo update image for the Nokia 8. He posted an image of the mobile phone one reboot away from being updated to a beta version of Android 8.0 Oreo. Also, during a recent launch event for Nokia in Taiwan, a company executive confirmed that the Nokia 8 will most likely receive the Oreo update by the end of October.

Nokia launched its current flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8 back in September in India. The device is priced at Rs 36,999 and is powered by a Snapdragon 835 mobile platform. The Nokia 8 sports a 5.3-Inch QHD screen with an 'Always On' display, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The device features 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded upto 128GB via a microSD card.

The Nokia 8 features a 13MP dual-camera setup on the rear and a 13MP front-facing camera. Both the cameras are equipped with ZEISS optics. The smartphone is powered by a 3,090mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support and currently runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.
