New leak shows curved surface on upcoming Huawei smartphone
HIGHLIGHTS

After being leaked by Evan Blass a few days ago, a new image shows curved front or back panel on the mystery phone supposed to be unveiled by Huawei at IFA

A new, leaked image has surfaced of a Huawei smartphone that is set to be launched at IFA 2015, and shows a curved surface on the smartphone that was recently leaked by Twitter leakster, Evan Blass. This new image, leaked by Giz China on Twitter, does not clearly show whether the curved surface is the front or back end of the phone.

If the photo depicts the front of the phone, it will possibly feature a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge-like display, with a lesser angle of curvature at the edges. While the previously leaked photos and videos have shown a straight metal back, the possibility of Huawei adding a slightly curved silver-black glass finish cannot be ruled out. Phones with large screens are increasingly adding curved backs to aid ergonomics. Although this might not be a hallmark feature, it can contribute to the aesthetic and ergonomic appeal of the device – an important factor, considering that it is expected to feature a 6-inch display.

Huawei is expected to unveil the new device at IFA, 2015. The first leaked post stated that the phone would possibly belong to Huawei’s D series, and feature Force Touch display technology. Later, Blass corrected that it will not feature Force Touch, and will be a part of Huawei’s Ascend Mate series. Therefore, we expect it to be the Huawei Ascend Mate 8, the successor to previous year’s Mate 7.

As per latest word, Huawei has been dubbed to power the smartphone with a HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor, 6-inch QHD display, 20.7-megapixel primary camera, 8-megapixel front camera, and a fingerprint sensor at the back. The Ascend Mate 8 is expected to be released in two variants – a 3GB RAM/32GB ROM combination, and a 4GB RAM/64GB ROM combination. With IFA 2015 scheduled for September 4, we await Huawei’s launch event for confirmation on the many rumours.
