Microsoft says full Windows 10 will run on Qualcomm processors

Microsoft says a full fledged Windows 10 experience will be available on ARM processors, made by Qualcomm. In its hardware developer conference in China, Microsoft recently announced, that a Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm will soon be supporting Windows-based apps, like Microsoft Office, third-party Windows software, and Windows games.

This, essentially means Microsoft won’t need specific mobile versions of its operating system in future. Earlier, the company used to make mobile specific versions of Windows, which led to compatibility and functionality issues. Interestingly, Microsoft’s Executive VP of Windows and Devices Group, Terry Myerson, said in a statement, that the company looks forward to a new range of thin, light, power-efficient and always-connection devices, that are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. He said this would help Microsoft deliver services like the stylus, Windows Hello and more.

This is important, since it points towards the future of Windows devices, especially from the mobile aspect. It may also mean that despite reports, Microsoft isn’t done with mobile devices yet. The rumoured Surface phone, may be the first to exhibit what Windows 10 can do on the Snapdragon platform. In fact, Qualcomm has already said that the first devices to run the Windows 10 platform on its processors, will be available in 2017, with the Snapdragon 835.
