According to the Counterpoint report Indian brands together count for two-thirds of the total mobile phone shipments and more than half of smartphone shipments in India.

The research report also gives the figures based on which Micromax is leading mobile phone shipments in India with a 16% share followed by Samsung at 14.4% at close second. But Samsung is still number one in terms of smartphone shipments in India with 25.3% of the total shipments.

According to the Market research team at Counterpoint, the Indian mobile phone market grew 2% annually and the smartphone segment has shown a handsome increase of 68% annually. The report also states that the increase in the smartphone segment is majorly due to Indian and Asian phone manufacturers.

It has also been reported by Counterpoint that Micromax has become the tenth largest handset maker in the world in terms of mobile phone shipment volumes. The report also shows that the back to basics formula of Motorola has worked and with only three phones in the market, the Moto E, the Moto G and the Moto X, Motorola has grabbed the fourth spot in the Indian smartphone shipment pie.
