The Micromax A116 Canvas HD can now be updated to the latest version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The catch is that this update wont happen over the air.

Micromax’s pioneered the quad-core budget smartphone market with the launch of the A116 Canvas HD. Out of the box the smartphone ran on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the Indian smartphone maker promised the 4.2 update at the event.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is now available for the Micromax A116 Canvas HD. There is however a catch to the update. You can’t update the software over the air or by connecting the smartphone to your computer. You will have to take the device to the companies service centre to avail the update. The company has however added OTA support in the new update, which means that you will be able to update the smartphone over the air in the future.

Apart from updating the OS, the Android 4.2 update for the Micromax A116 Canvas HD also brings with it fixes and updates. To start with it brings a fix for the delay in GPS location lock. The update also adds panorama shot feature to the camera app of the smartphone. It also adds offline voice typing along with bringing some performance improvements. We home one of the performance improvements is that the smartphone runs the Flipboard app which causes the smartphone to crash if you try to run it.

Unveiled for the first time in Feb 2013, the Micromax Canvas HD has a 5-inch IPS display with a 1280×720 pixel resolution. It supports 4GB built in storage expandable via a microSD card. It has the mediate quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM. The rear of the smartphone houses an 8MP camera and it also has a front facing camera for video calling. The smartphone boasts of Dual-SIM capabilities and also houses a 2000mAh battery.
