Information circulating the Internet suggests that Micromax is working on a sub-Rs. 15k smartphone with a 3D user interface.
According to Twitter user @MMXNewscaster, Micromax is working on yet another budget smartphone in its Canvas lineup. Called the A115 Canvas 3D, the smartphone is expected to launch in April and be priced around the Rs. 15,000 price point. The smartphone is in its final stages of development.
The display of the Canvas 3D apparently isn’t autostereoscopic 3D, but simply that it can render images in 3D i.e., it will have a 3D user interface. The Micromax A115 Canvas 3D will have a 5-inch display with a 480×800 pixel resolution (same as the Canvas 2 A110) and is powered by the dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor. Information on the Internet suggests that the MediaTek MT6589 quad-core processor, the same one powering the Canvas HD, may power the Canvas 3D.
The rear of the Micromax A115 Canvas 3D is said to house an 8MP shooter with an LED flash, apart from a front-facing 2MP camera for video calling. The smartphone will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The camera on the rear of the smartphone won’t be 3D like the ones found on the LG Optimus 3D or the HTC Evo 3D. It will be a standard 8MP camera, probably similar to the one found on the Micromax A116 Canvas HD.
Micromax has seen quite a bit of success with smartphones previously launched under the Canvas name. We have seen the Canvas 2 A110, which is a budget 5-inch smartphone, priced around the Rs. 10,000 price point. Micromax took the budget 5-inch smartphone battle to the next level with the launch of the A116 Canvas HD. The sub 15k budget smartphone boasts of a quad-core processor, 720p HD 5-inch display and an 8MP rear camera.
All hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Indian budget smartphone maker. Recently Ericsson sued Micromax in India on grounds of 2G and 3G wireless technologies patent infringement.
