HIGHLIGHTS

This would be Meizu's first foray into India. The company is running promotions on Facebook around the same. Meizu is expected to launch the Meizu M1 Note in India.

Meizu is about to launch its first smartphone in India. In an anonymous tip to Digit, we’re being told that the company is planning to launch the Meizu M1 Note in the country. This is further substantiated by the fact that Meizu is promoting the device for its India fans on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages. The company is running a giveaway for fans in India only, the first winners of which will be announced on March 21. Of course the information is unconfirmed right now and we’ve reached out to Meizu for the same. Interestingly, Meizu's Facebook page for India ws created only about two days ago and it already has about 1000 fans.

The Meizu M1 Note runs on the company’s MediaTek MT6572 octa-core SoC and has a 5.5 inch 1080p display along with 2GB of RAM. The device also has a 13MP primary and 5MP secondary camera. In addition, the storage options differ between 16 and 32GB variants, while a 3140 mAh battery takes care of the power requirements. The M1 Note is a camera centric device and Meizu’s Facebook page also shows a post regarding the same. The company has been known to produce some much talked about devices, which are high on specifications, but low on prices. Looking at the recent inflow of Chinese smartphone makers in India, it is not hard to believe that Meizu also has its sights set on the country. Meizu is also expected to launch the first ever Meizu ubuntu based smartphones this year.

Over the past year, India has emerged as one of the most important smartphone markets in the world. This is further corroborated by companies bringing their newest devices to India right after their announcements overseas. Companies like Xiaomi and Lenovo have seen huge success with their newest devices, although it is not sure whether Meizu will follow similar sales models.

As mentioned above, we’ve reached out to the company for a clarification and will be putting an update to this story as soon as we hear back from them. Watch this space.
