HIGHLIGHTS

The phone is expected to be the first phone in Meizu's Blue Charm series, and features an all-metallic body.

Meizu is expected to release a new smartphone in its Blue Charm series at an event to be held on October 21. The Chinese manufacturer has sent out invites for the event which include a blue-coloured metallic back cover. The phone is expected to have a metallic body, which, if comes true, will be a first for the Blue Charm series of smartphones. As reported by Anzhuo.cn, the phone is being referred to as 'Charm Blue Metal' on the launch invitation.

The phone is rumoured to come with a 5.5-inch Full HD display. It is expected to run on an octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. Meizu’s upcoming phone is expected to offer 16GB of internal storage with support for microSD cards of up to 128GB. It will reportedly have a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The phone is expected to be 8.2 mm thick and may run on YunOS 3.1.6. The YunOS is an operating interface for smartphones and is developed by AliCloud, subsidiary of the Alibaba Group. The phone is further rumoured to come in a variety of colours like Blue, Gold, Silver, Pink and White. The smartphones launched under Blue Charm series are known for their affordability, but, as the phone is expected to feature a metal build, it might be more expensive.

Meizu’s event on October 21 falls within one month of the launch of company’s latest flagship smartphone, the Pro 5, in China. The phone sports a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and 2.5D curved glass. It is powered by an Exynos 7420 chipset, and features a 21MP rear camera with a 5MP front camera. The whole package is powered by a 3050mAh battery, with support for mCharge 2.0 fast charging technology. Meizu has said that it will charge the phone up to 65% within 30 minutes of charging. The phone also features a USB Type-C port, and runs on Flyme OS v5, based on Android Lollipop v5.0. The Pro 5 has two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. The two variants of the Meizu Pro 5 are priced at RMB 2799 (approx. Rs. 28,732) and RMB 3099 (Rs. 31,812) respectively, and are expected to reach Indian markets by next year.
