LG rolling out Android Oreo update for LG G6 from April 30

The Android Oreo update for the LG G6 bring PiP functionality, support for high resolution LDAC as well as features under the ‘sympathetic AI’ that were first introduced in the LG V30S Thinq.

LG has announced that it would start rolling out the Android Oreo update for its G6 smartphone from April 30. The announcement was made via a post the company’s official blog and comes just a few days before the unveiling of the LG G7 smartphone. As per the post, the update will can be downloaded via OTA or through the LG Bridge program on the PC. The post also notes that the update will also be rolled out to the LG V20 and the LG G5. However, it is not yet known when the company plans to roll out the update to those two phones. 

The new update would bring Picture in Picture (PiP) functionality as well as support for high resolution LDAC that the company says can minimise sound source loss. The Oreo update for the LG G6 would also introduce certain features under the ‘sympathetic AI’ that were first introduced in the LG V30S ThinQ smartphone. Further, the post notes that the Oreo update would bring improvements to the speed, battery, basic performance and more.

To recall, the LG G6 was globally unveiled back in February last year and was one of the first smartphones to offer the 18:9 display aspect ratio. The device made its way to India a few months later. The smartphone sports a 5.7-inch QHD+ display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 SoC. At the back is a dual-rear camera setup with two 13MP sensors. At the front is a 5MP unit. The device sports a 3300mAh battery and offers IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. The LG G6 was also one of the first non-Pixel smartphones to offer support for Google Assistant.
