Leaked Nokia 8 reports were “innacurate”, Qualcomm confirms
HIGHLIGHTS

YouTube channel Total Tech had put out videos of a phone alleged to be the Nokia 8. Turns out, it was a reference design for Qualcomm, made by Nokia.

It seems yesterday's reports about the Nokia 8 were false. YouTube channel Total Tech had put out videos of a smartphone, alleged to be the Nokia 8, HMD Global's flagship Nokia phone for 2017. However, this device was apparently a Qualcomm reference design for the Snapdragon 835 SoC. The chip-maker has confirmed that the device alleged to be Nokia's flagship for 2017, was only a reference design for Qualcomm. Even Total Tech has updated its video description indicating the same. "For those asking, Leaks are as good as the info you are provided! This staff member clearly stated it was reference hardware manufactured for Qualcomm by Nokia."

While Qualcomm does confirm that this was a reference design from Qualcomm, it hasn't denied any of the other information that Total Tech provided. We also reached out to HMD Global for a comment on the matter, but the company hasn't responded yet.

A statement to Nokiamob.net from Catherine Baker, Spokeswoman for Qualcomm, said, "We do not disclose details of our reference design. We've seen a few stories rumoring what we demonstrated in our CES booth to be a Nokia device, those reports are not accurate, our 835 demos were on our own reference design devices which we use to demo our Snapdragon SOC's every year." Qualcomm India didn't add anything beyond this statement either.
