Karbonn to re-enter India’s smartphone market with Rebel 5G: Check expected specs and price
Karbonn plans to re-enter India’s smartphone market, targeting Gen Z buyers with budget-friendly devices.
Karbonn Rebel 5G may feature a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, Unisoc T8200 chipset and 6,000mAh battery.
The Rebel 5G could be priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 17,000. However, Karbonn has not confirmed the specs and pricing yet.
Homegrown phone maker Karbonn is set to re-enter India’s smartphone market. The company announced it will re-enter the smartphone space to “re-establish” its presence and is aiming to target young Indians this time. Pradeep Jain, CEO and MD of Jaina Group (Karbonn’s parent) , hints at “curated devices”, which could imply a series or set of gadget launches. With the second innings, the company is expected to position its devices in the struggling budget segment, aiming to fill the void of decent options created by the current RAM and storage crisis.
SurveyWith the move, Karbonn will cater to Gen Z buyers, content creators and students, among its other target audience. For the unversed, Karbonn and other India-based smartphone brands such as Micromax, Spice and others witnessed a massive decline in sales and market share with the arrival of the Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and more in 2014 and the rise of the Samsung Galaxy lineup during the same period.

While highlighting the current crisis and price hikes in the Indian smartphone world, Jain said the Karbonn will aim to democratise technology with the comeback. “Over the last couple of years, India’s phone market has climbed in price while the number of Indians buying has flatlined, proof that some of our most important buyers are being priced out rather than served,” he noted.
