Japan’s Nikkei confirms three iPhones this year, one with 5.8-inch OLED display
The upcoming iPhone 8 is rumoured to have an edge-to-edge display and could replace the home button with a “function area”
It was previously reported that the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 will have an OLED display and now another news agency from Japan has confirmed the same. According to a report in Nikkei, the Apple iPhone 8 will feature a large 5.8-inch screen size, and may cost $1000. Apple iPhone will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and thus Apple is expected to offer more bells and whistles on the upcoming device, hence the rumoured price of $1000. Besides the super premium iPhone 8, Apple is expected to launch “S” variants of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
In total, the company is expected to launch three new iPhones, iPhone 8, iPhone 7S and the iPhone 7S Plus. From what we know till now, the alleged iPhone 7S and 7S Plus smartphones will retain their current form factor in addition to the physical home button. Both phones will also carry similar LCD displays as current generation iPhones. Both phones are reported to carry the same aluminum chassis, which will be manufactured by Catcher Technology.
As for the iPhone 8, speculation suggests that it will be manufactured by Foxconn, and unlike the Aluminum shell of the current gen iPhones, will feature a stainless steel frame. The phone is expected to feature a 5.8-inch OLED display. Out of which, only 5.1 to 5.15-inch of the phone will work as the active display and the rest of screen space will serve as the alleged “function area”. This might be a touchscreen alternative for the home button, with functionality similar to the Touch bar we saw on the recent MacBook. We can expect it to sport a new A-series chip, 3GB RAM and 64GB/256GB storage options.
A previous report also suggests that the upcoming iPhone 8 will feature an iris scanner and all three upcoming phone will offer wireless charging. In addition, a larger battery is also expected
