Is Samsung making its own mobile GPU?
HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung may unveil its own in-house mobile GPU by next year to compete against Qualcomm.

Samsung has been making smartphones with ARM based SoCs and GPUs all this while but recently rumors have emerged that Samsung is making its own GPU for mobile devices and may have a 64-bit CPU in the works, as well.

Currently Samsung uses ARM’s Cortex CPU and Mali GPU architecture in its Exynos chips. The rumors suggest that the Samsung GPU will take the Korean manufacturer one step closer to its own 64-bit SoC. Rumors also suggest that Samsung may unveil the chip by mid-2015. If that's the case, the GPU will miss the Samsung Galaxy S6 but may be used in next year's Galaxy Note 5.

The rumours suggest that Samsung is trying to cut down its dependency on ARM architecture and its ecosystem of component manufacturers, which points towards the company trying to cut down on costs and promote its own IP.
