HIGHLIGHTS

Huawei launched the Mate X today

The phone comes with a 2480×2200 display when open

As of now, the device is only available in China

Huawei joins the likes of smartphone manufactures such as Samsung and Motorola as they just released their latest device, the Huawei Mate X foldable phone. The device was unveiled in China today and comes at a rather high price of $2,421 which roughly converts to about Rs 1,73,428 in India. It joins the likes of the Motorola 2019 Razr and the Samsung Fold as one of the few folding devices out in the market, right now. Although, for that price point, it seems that it may be a little too expensive for the regular person.

The panel, when opened up, sports a 2480×2200 display. When it is closed, it splits into a 2480×1148, 6.6-inch display on the front and a 6.3-inch, 2480×892 display on the back. The phone is powered by a Huawei Kirin 980 SoC. The phone also comes with 8GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a rather large 4500mAh battery which will come in handy when powering the massive display. The Mate, unlike the Samsung Fold, has its display wrapped around the outer portion of the phone. This is a rather new design in the world of foldable smartphones, but it comes with its own set of problems. Namely, the display is delicate soft plastic which is prone to scratches and will be a pain to carry around in your pocket.

The phone does come with a leather case to protect it from wear and tear but that seems to be the only solution at the moment. As of right now, the phone is only available in China and we don’t have any idea whether or not the company will release the phone globally.
