HTC O2 might be the next flagship phone from HTC and it may feature Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC. It may also feature a 6-inch Quad-HD display.

We all know that the HTC One M9 wasn’t a great success story for HTC and that was due to two main reasons, the Snapdragon 810 SoC and the average camera, but this might soon change. Fresh rumors suggest that the upcoming phone might be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. It is also suggested that HTC might ditch the whole “One” naming scheme and the upcoming phone might be called O2. HTC is expected to launch the phone this year itself.

According to mobile-dad, HTC O2 will feature a 6-inch display with a Quad-HD resolution, which would put the phone in the phablet category. Also, HTC has maintained the screen size of its flagship smartphone to be around 5-inches. Besides this, 4GB RAM is expected and we might see even more manufacturers opting for 4GB LPDDR4 RAM for their upcoming flagship smartphones, like OnePlus did for the OnePlus 2. As for the storage, the HTC O2 is expected to come with two storage options of 64GB and 128GB. It is also rumored that the phone might get waterproof certification.

According to rumors, HTC might retain its design language as there seemed to be nothing wrong with it and was well received by consumers. Rumors suggest, the phone will feature a 3500mAh battery but no camera details are rumored yet. The chinese website also mentions that HTC might bring in a smaller 5-inch version of the phone in early 2016.

The HTC O2 will be a big launch, but the SoC which will supposedly power this phone, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, is a much bigger deal. After the disappointing feedback from manufacturers and customers alike, the Snapdragon 810 will be shown the door real soon and in its place will be the Snapdragon 820. Qualcomm is ditching the old Cortex CPU cores that have been use for quite some time now and replaced it with their own custom Hydra cores. While it is still unknown how many of these Hydra cores will be placed in the Snapdragon 820 SoC, rumors suggest, the 820 will have a quad-core processor.

The Snapdragon 820 will also feature an Adreno 530 GPU which Qualcomm claims to offer 40% better performance and uses 40% less power. There is a new Image Signal processor which Qualcomm claims will offer better image quality as it will offer features like hybrid autofocus. This new processor is also expected in the yet to be announced Xiaomi Mi5.
