HIGHLIGHTS

HTC says they will be offering the new UI globally on the One X, One X+, One S and the Butterfly, in the "next few months".

There is good news for the users of the current HTC One series of devices, and the HTC Butterfly. The company has confirmed that the Sense UI 5 will be rolled out for select phones in the “next few months”. These phones are – One X, One X , One S and the Butterfly. The international versions of these devices are confirmed to get the new UI, as will the network locked ones.

HTC revealed this in a post on the social network, Facebook, in response to a query by a user, who wanted to know about when the HTC Sense 5 will be available in the One X. You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that this person is probably a One X user who isn’t considering an upgrade anytime soon. The response from HTC reads, “HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the next few months, including global variants of HTC One X, One X , One S and the HTC Butterfly. Also, note that some features enabled by the new HTC One hardware will not be available in the software updates.”

It is clear that the update will bring in most features seen on the flagship HTC One’s UI, with certain hardware locked features obviously being given a miss. We can expect the BlinkFeed to arrive on the phones, but features like Zoe might be missing, considering they are closely linked to the UltraPixel camera on the One. HTC’s Zoe is a camera feature which enables shooting photographs in three second snippets, something that is an evolution of the burst mode and something that comes close to Time Shift. The Blinkfeed feature is something that power users would appreciate. It is the one app for all social network updates as well as news and feeds. HTC claims to have tied up with more than 1,400 media sources globally for constant updates.

At the moment, all we can do is wait for the update to pop up on our phones. The refresh to the UI will certainly give a new lease of life to the likes of the HTC One X and the HTC Butterfly, which were kind of overshadowed by the new HTC One.
