Goodbye Hasselblad! OnePlus 15 to come with in-house DetailMax Engine for cameras
OnePlus 15 will debut DetailMax imaging engine, focusing on sharp, realistic photos.
Hasselblad tie-up ends after four years, but design influence remains.
Expected specs: 50MP triple rear cameras, 32MP front, new square camera module.
OnePlus has officially announced the end of its partnership with Hasselblad, confirming that its upcoming flagship will debut an in-house imaging engine called DetailMax. Notably, the tie-up, which started with the OnePlus 9 series in 2021, seems to be winding down with the OnePlus 15. Though OnePlus founder Pete Lau says that its design philosophy will still be influenced by Hasselblad’s “refined aesthetic sense.”
SurveyHe wrote, “Now, we are building our own imaging engine, OnePlus DetailMax, designed not just to capture the world but to reveal it in entirely real and clear ways.”
While announcing the separation, Lau also revealed that users want sharp, real-looking photos. The first thing most users do is zoom into their pictures, and that’s where a camera’s true quality is judged, and that’s where DetailMax comes in, he wrote in a blog post shared on the OnePlus community page.
Lau also shared some insights on the upcoming imaging system, highlighting that the DetailMax takes full advantage of today’s computational photography tech, using advanced processing to interpret more data and deliver images that are rich, detailed, and natural. He points out that this isn’t about fake enhancements or over-the-top beautification, it’s about capturing scenes as they truly are.
While Lau didn’t confirm the “OnePlus 15” outright, it’s clear that the company’s next flagship will be the first to carry this new imaging engine.
Notably, the device is tipped to ship with a redesigned camera setup, moving from the circular camera module to a square-shaped module with rounded corners. The handset will likely pack a 50MP LYT700 primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera. For selfies, it may house a 32MP front camera.
